Bioengineering (DDP, Bosnia&Herzegovina) International Joint Degree Programmes

The information and program qualifications related to the Bioengineering (DDP, Bosnia&Herzegovina) International Joint Degree Programmes, under the Department of None of the Faculty of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering, are summarized below.

Information About The Program

Bioengineering focuses on the application of engineering principles to the desing, constraction and analysis of biological systems and therefore is a multidiciplanary education that integrates mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, medicine and engineering. Bioengineers are involved in any field relevant with “bio”, i.e., “life” and play an important role in the main areas such as medicine, genetics, food, agriculture, environment, and energy. Bioengineers are part of the important cornerstones which spans from cloning to artificial organ fabrication.

Bioengineering, started in 2024 is a dual-diploma and paid program being carried out by İstanbul Technical Universtiy (ITU) and International University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (IUS). The main aim of the program is to educate international level bioengineers. Students complete half of their degree work at each university. The Freshman/1st (first) and Senior/4th (fourth) Academic years of the joint program will be carried out at IUS while the Sophomore/2nd (second) and Junior/3rd (third) Academic years will be carried out at ITU. The language of courses offered in the program are English. Thus, students are required to achieve a score of 79 on the TOEFL iBT. If necessary one year pre-freshman intensive English language preparation is provided by IUS. Upon successful completion of program each student is awarded two diplamas; one from ITU an done from IUS.

Program Profile

All joint program students must satisfy both degree requirements at IUS and ITU in order to be jointly and simultaneously awarded their two diplomas from the respective universities. The degree designations which will appear on the diplomas are defined as follows: “Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering” from ITU and a “Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering” from IUS.

Registration Requirements

Admission is carried out in accordance with Article 4 of the Istanbul Technical University Double Degree International Joint Undergraduate Programs Education and Training Regulation. Click here for the relevant regulation.

Program Learning Environments

International University of Sarajevo (IUS) was established in 2003. Currently, the university hosts approximately 2,000 students at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels, coming from around 47 countries across various continents.

Founded by the Foundation for Education Development in 2003, IUS is recognized as the most prestigious foundation university in Bosnia and Herzegovina. IUS was established as a non-profit institution with the mission of providing university-level education to strengthen educational ties among different nations and cultures. With its expert academic staff across five faculties, IUS offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. It is recognized by the Agency for Development of Higher Education and Quality Assurance (HEA) and is listed in the Register of Accredited Higher Education Institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. IUS is also an associate member of the European University Association (EUA). Six of its programs have received international accreditation from AQ Austria.

The IUS English Language School (ELS) was recently accredited by EAQUALS (Evaluation and Accreditation of Quality Language Services), a Europe-based international accreditation body known for its recognition of high-quality language education. With this achievement, the IUS English Language School became the first university-based English preparatory program in the entire Balkan region to be accredited by EAQUALS.
