The information and program qualifications related to the Marine Engineering Bachelor of Science Program, under the Department of Marine Engineering of the Faculty of Maritime, are summarized below.
Information About The Program
Graduates receive the ITU Maritime Faculty Marine Engineering License Diploma after 1 year of English Preparation and 4 years of license education in the Marine Engineering Department. Students who succeed in the license exam administered by the National Seafarers Exam Center receive their Marine Engineer Certificate and start working on Turkish or foreign-flagged ships as a 3rd Engineer. They can then proceed to obtain their 2nd Engineer and Chief Engineer licenses once they have completed the sea time requirements set forth by the national administration.
Students receive their practical training in the Engine Room Simulators, Fire Fighting Training Center, Training Pool, and various Laboratories. The 6th semester is also reserved for sea training onboard national or international-flagged merchant marine vessels on international routes.
50 students are admitted to the ITU Maritime Faculty Marine Engineering Department every year. The entire education is carried out in uniform.

Program Learning Environments
The learning environments of the Marine Engineering Program include not only the classrooms within the Faculty of Maritime, but also university-wide classrooms used for common pool courses, department-specific student, research, and computer laboratories, ITU-licensed distance education software, and the Ninova e-learning center, whose software has been developed by ITU. The companies where students complete their workshop internships and sea-going internships also serve as learning environments. Student laboratories include the Marine Engines Laboratory, Marine Auxiliary Machinery Laboratory, Hydraulic-Pneumatic Laboratory, Marine Engine Operations Laboratory, Electrical and Electronics Laboratory, Automatic Control Laboratory, Machine Tools Workshop, and the Engine Room Simulator. The research laboratory is the Clean Energy in Maritime Laboratory. Students also advance their learning process through their activities in student clubs and teams, as well as through one-to-one work carried out with academic staff and their peers.
