Information About The Program

It is a graduate program under the Textile Engineering Department and provides education only at Master of Science level..

Considering the demand from textile companies' R&D centers, the quota of the program is determined as 30 people.

This program is supported by the Istanbul Textile Raw Materials Exporters Association (ITHIB).

It has an interdisciplinary structure as it includes the applications of different disciplines such as Materials, Polymer, Nanotechnology as well as Textile Engineering in technical textiles.

The difference of this proposed graduate program from the other master's programs such as Materials, Polymer, and Nanotechnology being carried out in our university is that these disciplines do not include a education and curriculum for the use of a technical textile product in the design, development, production and testing processes.

Course contents included in the curriculum are also designed for technical textile applications such as innovative and functional materials and products used in technical textiles, polymeric biomaterials, nanomaterials and composites, high performance textile materials.

Candidates who have graduated from a four-year undergraduate program from different disciplines can apply to this program.

Undergraduate GPA: 2.30 / 4.00

Student admission to the program is carried out according to ITU Graduate Regulations and Senate Principles.

There is no Scientific Preparation.

Program Profile

The aim of the program is to provide students with an education that will significantly contribute to their advancement both in the industry and in academic life in the field of technical textiles. In this context, students have the opportunity to choose from a wide range of courses in the fields of technical textiles and functional textiles. It is aimed that graduates of this program will have expertise in different areas and topics of technical textiles.

Program Learning Environments


The Innovative Technical Textiles program is a face-to-face program and the language of instruction is English. Students enrolled in this program receive detailed knowledge and comprehensive training through the courses they choose during their master’s studies. Program Educational Objectives

Having detailed information about all processes from raw material to final product in different fields of innovative technical textiles,

Having the necessary knowledge and equipment to solve technological problems in the field of innovative technical textiles and lead future developments,

Having the ability to design, develop and evaluate innovative and unique technical textile products and evaluate product quality depending on the area of use,

Has the potential to create competitive advantage in their professions thanks to the interdisciplinary perspective offered by the program,

To raise graduates who have the ability to transmit the current developments and their studies in the field of innovative technical textiles in their own language or foreign language in written, verbal and visual form, by supporting with quantitative and qualitative data and by using information and communication technologies.


Measurement and Evaluation

Evaluating Student Success
The student success is evaluated considering Articles 56, 57, 58, and 59 of the Istanbul Technical University Graduate Education and Training Regulation Senate Principles.

ARTICLE 56 - Before the enrollment for the courses begins, the faculty member who offers the course informs the Program Executive Committee about the types, number and contribution percentage to the final grade of the studies within the semester, as well as requirements for a right to take the semester final exam. These requirements shall be finalized by approval of the Program Executive Committee and approval of the chair of the department, who declares them to the student and informs the Graduate School.

ARTICLE 57 - A student may appeal the final grade of a course within one week following the announcement of the grades. Appeals must be submitted to the Graduate School in writing. The relevant faculty member shall re-evaluate the student's success status and submit the result to the Graduate School within one week. Appeals not submitted within the prescribed time frame shall not be considered by the Graduate School.

ARTICLE 59 - Students who wish to improve their cumulative grade point average may retake courses during the course-taking period. The most recent grade will be counted for the repeated courses.


Internship

There is no internship in this program.


Graduation Requirements

The teaching language of the program is 100% English.

There are 10 compulsory and 16 elective courses in the program.

The number of credits of each course is 3 credits (7.5 ECTS).

At least 4 of the compulsory courses must be selected and hence, at least 50% of the courses chosen should be compulsory courses.

The academic calendar of the program will be in accordance with ITU Graduate Academic Calendar.

Elective courses are planned for different fields of study of technical textiles.

In accordance with the 6th article of the Istanbul Technical University Regulation on Postgraduate Education; providing not less than eight courses, the program consists of at least twenty four-credit courses and non-credit courses, a seminar course and a thesis work.

Innovative Technical Textiles Graduate Program contributes to the training of qualified man power for technical textiles field in Turkey and to develop the Re/De potential of companies through university-industry collaboration. The graduates of the program find opportunity to find career opportunities in companies working in technical textiles area.
Considering the educational objectives of the program, job opportunities awaiting the graduates of the program:
The projects carried out by R&D centers operating in textile and other related fields approved by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology are mainly in the field of innovative and technical textiles.
Program graduates will have the opportunity to work as R&D personnel in these centers.
There are more than 200 enterprises producing technical textiles in Turkey and the cities where technical textile production is most intense are Istanbul, Bursa, Kocaeli, Tekirdağ and Gaziantep. Among these enterprises, there are companies with high production potential such as Kordsa, Korteks, Öztek, Hassan, Hayat Kimya, Aksa, Martur.  
Graduates of this program will contribute to the development of the R&D potential of these companies.
The graduates of the program are employed in departments of textile plants and companies varying from small to big scale, i.e., production, planning, quality control, sales or marketing or in agencies of domestic or foreign companies for textile products and textile machinery, concentrated in different regions of Turkey.
The graduates who wish to carry out their further studies are successfully accepted by national and international graduate schools.
