Information About The Program
The aim of ‘History of Science and Technology Graduate Program’ is to give advanced level education students in history of science and technology and develop their independent scientific research skills.
In history of science and technology graduate program, besides the topics about history of science and technology in different civilization basins, it is also planned to carry out studies about written and visual sources of Turkish science history. In this context, graduate students could be reach to the opportunity to learn technical content of basic and formal sciences. Furthermore, the students will be able to learn the classical languages in which written texts related to the history of science and technology are written. This program has an approach to work on history of science and technology through not only history of basic and formal sciences, but also scientific institutions and technological revolution with regarding contributions different civilizations.
In lectures, the formation of modern science in Europe, besides industrial revolution, history of Turkish science and technology, the development of science and technology in the Islamic world, the evolution of engineering and technology. Within the framework of 19th - 20th century modernization studies, the institutionalization of science and issues such as the importance of periodicals in the dissemination of science will be addressed and discussed.

Program Educational Objectives
In the program, the subjects are related to the history of science and technology in different civilization basins, and the studies are planned to examine the written and visual sources of the history of Turkish science in particular. In this context, graduate students will be provided with the opportunity to learn the technical content of the discipline of basic and formal sciences in which they will conduct research. In addition, students will be provided to learn the classical languages in which written texts on the history of science and technology are written. This program will cover the history of basic and formal sciences, as well as scientific institutions and technological evolution, taking into account the contributions of different civilizations. In the courses, the formation of modern science in Europe, the fields of the industrial revolution, as well as the history of Turkish science and technology, and the development of science and technology in the Islamic world will be examined. Issues such as the importance of periodicals will be covered and discussed.

Evaluating Student Success
The student success is evaluated considering Articles 56, 57, 58, and 59 of the Istanbul Technical University Graduate Education and Training Regulation Senate Principles.
ARTICLE 56 - Before the enrollment for the courses begins, the faculty member who offers the course informs the Program Executive Committee about the types, number and contribution percentage to the final grade of the studies within the semester, as well as requirements for a right to take the semester final exam. These requirements shall be finalized by approval of the Program Executive Committee and approval of the chair of the department, who declares them to the student and informs the Graduate School.
ARTICLE 57 - A student may appeal the final grade of a course within one week following the announcement of the grades. Appeals must be submitted to the Graduate School in writing. The relevant faculty member shall re-evaluate the student's success status and submit the result to the Graduate School within one week. Appeals not submitted within the prescribed time frame shall not be considered by the Graduate School.

ARTICLE 59 - Students who wish to improve their cumulative grade point average may retake courses during the course-taking period. The most recent grade will be counted for the repeated courses.
Internship
There is no internship in this program.
Graduation Requirements
Students are required to take a total of 8 courses, including Science Historiography, History of Development in Technology, Scientific Revolution, and Science and Technology in Industrial Revolution courses, and pass them successfully. 30 percent of the courses taken must be in English.
In the thesis term, they are expected to write a Master's Thesis determined by the Graduate School's Regulations.
